solve exercises in the context of the lecture Basic Mathematics and Statistics for Spatial Planning (matrix calculation, basic features of the financial mathematics, descriptive statistics, graph theory, index numbers and measures,probability therory and distributions, inference statistics).

Teaching methods

Tasks are provided weekly and can be prepared by students for the exercises and presented on the blackboard. In addition, exams must be taken during the semester.

The course is an elective subject in the study.

The course is planned as a distance course, i.e. there will be exercises at defined times that will be held online. All further details will be discussed at the preliminary discussion (= preliminary discussion of the lecture). Attendance is compulsory in the UE!

Examination modalities

  • 3 tests (20 points each) during the semester, 2 of which must be passed positively (greater than or equal to 50%), at least 4 points per test. A re-exam is offered for hard cases. 
  • Attendance is required and you have to visit the group for which you are registered.
  • Points are awarded for prepared examples that are voluntarily presented on the board.
  • Bonus points can also be earned for additional services as part of the exercises.
  • Employment is also assessed with a bonus system.

Good command of the computing techniques of school mathematics (upper level AHS, BHS or equivalent vocational higher schools).
To refresh and to compensate for any deficits, reference is made explicitly to the mathematics approximation course at TU Wien (see previous courses). These contents are briefly repeated in the course, but are essentially required.
