Aim of course

The students know about the potential and limits of integrated regional development within the current setting of international development cooperation and get an insight into basic planning and monitoring techniques

Subject of course

The lecture will provide the broader context of grand development theories and an overview about the institutional landscape and key topics in international cooperation. The potentials and limits of regional development in the Global South will be presented by using contemporary project examples from Africa.

Methodologies and tools of project planning and monitoring such as Project Cycle Management/Logframe Approach/Management of Cooperation will be presented and practiced.

An interactive role play simulating a participatory planning situation in Ethiopia will reveal the impact of cultural settings and the conflict of interest in participatory planning.

New topics such as the regime of Sustainable Development Goals, resilience and climate change, which will influence the work of regional planers and architects in developing countries, will be presented and discussed.
