After successful completion of the course, students are able to design and conduct social space analyses with focus on qualitative-participative research methods.

Students

• get an overview of the relevant spatial planning methods of empirical social research;

• learn the appropriate use of the methods of empirical social research for the different topics of space and place;

• can classify critical the different methods and understand the differences between standardized and non- standardized research;

• immerse themselves in the acquired knowledge of methods from the lecture in the practice part of the course;

• arrange a qualitative method in the context of domestic work and reflect their own scientific approach;

• can face the variety of data collection and analysis techniques in the end of the course, and known mainly interventional and spatially methods in theory and practice.

At first, the background of the methods of empirical social research is outlined, with the significant division into quantitative and qualitative methods of empirical social research.
In terms of quantitative methods are mainly the research steps, hypothesis formation and the development and application of questionnaires in the foreground. Much time of the course is devoted to the qualitative methods. The important qualitative data collection methods (interviews, observation, group discussion)  for the daily work of planners be learned in their individual approach, their methodological structure and its implementation. Based on this information we discusse different qualitative analysis approaches and the qualitative content analysis as a relevant method of analysis and practical will be learned in the practical part of the course. In addition to this, new methodological process of spatial planning as intervening methods, methods of participations (e.g. mental maps), social area analysis will presented. The lecture is accompanied by an practical part, with best-practice and real examples.

AKTUELLE INFORMATIONEN ZUM DISTANCE TEACHING

 Die VU wird im Sommersemester 2021 als Distance Learning-Veranstaltung durchgeführt. Die einzelnen Einheiten werden live gestreamt. Darüber hinaus erhalten die Studierenden laufend über TUWEL oder TISS aktuelle Informationen zur VU.

 Informationen zur Gruppenarbeit finden sich ab Semesterbeginn auf der TUWEL-Plattform. Wir bemühen uns, ein Selbststudium sowie die Arbeit in Kleingruppen zeitflexibel zu ermöglichen. Wichtig ist es allerdings, Live-Termine mit Anwesenheitspflicht, sowie die Termine für Anmeldungen (Gruppen und Feedback) und Abgaben einzuhalten!

Interaktive Termine:

Im Zeitrahmen zwischen 08.06. und 11.06. ´21 wird via TUWEL ein interaktives Peer-Feedback zu den erarbeiteten Themenstellungen gegeben

Zwei interaktive Präsentationstermine am 16.06. 21 sowie am 22.06. 2021 schließen den prüfungsimmanenten Teil der VU ab

Es gibt einen Reader mit Texten aus unterschiedlichen Einführungsbüchern der "Methoden der empirischen Sozialforschung", der ab dem Kick Off-Termin im Handapparat der Institutsbibliothek zur Verfügung stehen wird (Augasse 2-6, 2.Stock/ Spange A, Raum WA 02 K19).

Der Reader deckt alle Vorlesungen inhaltlich ab und kann als Ergänzung zu den bereitgestellten Folien gesehen werden.
