To impart a knowledge of computerized technical bases for data management, databases and data communication. To gain an overview of databases in Austria relevant to regional planning (structure, contents, access) and the acquisition and analysis of data (economic statistics and finance statistics) from external databases. Practical exercises: To gain a more profound knowledge of data management and analysis using MS-Excel, database management using MS-Access, practical knowledge of data communication (access to external calculators, data transfer) and the operation of selected external databases (data search, selection and query).

Technological foundations for data modelling, data management, data communication and a survey on databases in Austria relevant to regional planning. Detailed presentation of the most important databases (structure, contents, access, usage). Survey of the data available at the local and regional levels especially socio-economic data and data concerning public budgets. Practical use of external database access and network communications, practical work with external databases: local database management, data analysis and presentation using MS-Access/Excel and examples corresponding to the course of lecture.
