Learning outcomes

After successful completion of the course, students are able to...

- name the Basics of scientific theorie and methods-theory for the transformation of empirical Spatial Research

- discover the practical relevance of methodological knowledge to adapt spatial-relevant questions

- discribe methodological and theoretical Basics of quantitative and qqualitative methods, their advantages and disadvantages as well as possible areas of applications

- define pssible paths, how quantitative and qualitative methodes in application of spatial-relevant questions could complete each other

- exercise, deepen and reflect the theoretical knowledge through analysis of existing research work

- write an research concept of their own

Subject of course

The course is organised in an oral lecture part and an exercise part. In the lecture part, theoretic Basics of Methodology of the empirical spatial research will be achieved. The lecture starts with an short introduction in scientific Basics for developing spatial-relevant question. In order of that, methodological backgrounds of quantitative and qualitative methods will be explained and their practical application will be discussed. The lecture concludes with an overview about the possibilites of methodstriangulation for combining quantitative and qualitative methods to talk round spatial referred research questions.

In order to the part of the lecture, the exercise has the purpose to lead the students to an critical analysis as well as own conceptions of empirical, spatial referred research. In the first part, the presented research approach will be analysed in respect of the scientific-theoretical approach, research design and established methods. As assembled with in the second part, research concepts along to spatial referred questions will be developed in small groups. This is to be completed with an third part of exercise, in which about the prepared research concepts will be reflected with the exceptional focus on the suggested approach of methods. The didactical quality of the exercise should be focused on the interaction and learning from together among the students which may be forced up.

Teaching methods

Presentation of research ideas understandingly, clearly and in a short form of the students own

Argumentation with scientific papers in small groups critically

To provide and handle with feedback in the scientific context

Fast and measurable reading

In an guided method the students can analyse critically as well as concept and develop empirical and spatial-referred research of their own, reflect them in the practice part and force-up the interaction and learn from each other.
