Learning outcomes

After successful completion of the course, students are able to describe the instruments of regional planning in Austria, as well as its basic framework, which is necessary to create such instruments.

Basic elements, which are essential for the creation of formal instruments, can be defined by students. Through the discussion of examples, students will gain the ability to transfer the structure, content and effects of these instruments and to review them.

After successful completion of the course, students are also able to define informal instruments of regional planning.

Subject of course

The content of the course is to convey knowledge on the development of regional planning in Austria, its instruments as well as its basic framework, which is necessary to create such instruments. The lecture focuses mainly on formal planning instruments.

On the basis of examples (e.g. ÖREK, State development programmes, Regional development programmes, sectoral development programmes) the structure, content and effect of these instruments will be explained.

The lecture also outlines informal instruments of regional planning. Further information relates to instruments of cross border spatial planning, as well as concepts and plans on European levels.
