The aim of the lecture is to enhance the student s personal view of society towards a professional knowledge about social structures, the organisation of society, social action and coherences of social problems. This knowledge is aimed to be the basis of professional planning.

Basic concepts as the individuum, society, norms, role, family, socialisation, power, conflict, social change are being introduced and interrelated to different theoretical approaches and philosophy of science. The causes of social inequality and its description (class, social mobility, social milieus, life styles, gender, migration, integration) take an important position in the lecture. At the end of the lectures the consequences for the function of planning will be discussed.
