Aim of course

The intention of the course is to sensitise the students for the problem situation in developing countries and the resulting challenges for planning. Based on the discussion of the multidimensional set of problems of development, objectives and strategies of national and international humanitarian aid and development cooperation will be analysed. With the involvement national and international experts the reference to practical experience is set.

Subject of course

Based on inputs on theoretical topics (e.g. problem situation in developing countries, objectives and strategies of national and international humanitarian aid and development cooperation) and case studies up-to-date questions in the field of regional planning and development cooperation will be discussed together with experts and analysed in group works. The specific topic differs annually. The topic of 2009 is: Development and development cooperation in the context of disasters and catastrophes
