Aim of course

Understanding of the currently emerging research area Architectural Geometry.

Subject of course

Geometry for optimization and physical output of architectural models. Geometry of multiaxis NC milling and practical exercises with the KUKA milling robot at TU Vienna. Analysis of surfaces (curvature, ...). Developable surfaces and unfoldings. Modelling with subdivison surfaces. Shape optimization problems. Discrete freeform structures.

Additional information

Location: The course has different locations including ZS 3 and CAD 2 rooms (Freihaus, green tower, 7th floor) and modelworkshop  (Modellbau, Karlsplatz 13). Details may be found in the schedule.

Previous knowledge

Good working knowledge of CAD software (especially Rhino), basic computer knowledge.

Basic chapters of book "Architectural Geometry".
