Aim of course

Planning of demanding, innovative and practically oriented projects for regional development in a developing country based co-operation between - including a 3 to 4-week field course in a developing country. The participants are to form an integrated regional development concept which is realistically possible to realize for a selected region. Project 3 - including the field work - is to be carried out within the framework of a current regional development project, and thus provides the participating students with an opportunity to gain experience in international project work. Application of the analytic concepts of public finance and the economy of infrastructure as well as the regional and municipal economic policy in the planing process

Subject of course

N.B.: See beside the following contents (Project 3a) also the contents of our second alternative offer (Project 3b) under the heading: "Note" - The reaction, from the planning point of view, that is directed towards the realization of the dynamic developmental process in the region selected - Working out those priorities which are existentially decisive in short- and mid-term regional planning - Securing a maximum of long-term developmental and existential bases for the local population - Taking into account the importance of ecology in the development policy, and also the ecological foundation of life, in the planning and development processes. - Recognition of complicated overlapping problems resulting from networked interdisciplinary thinking - Working out suggestions and solutions to problems together with the local people - Learning from professional approaches to solutions to complicated and 'extreme' problem situations - Planning work - with the priority of being realizable and of long-term benefit to the local population.

Previous knowledge

- successful participation in the lecture (written homework) - advanced study progress (2. Studienabschnitt) - sound physical and psychical health - language skills (English obligatory, Spanish and other languages as an asset) - capable to cooperate and work in interdisciplinary teams also under difficult working conditions - long term interest in development topics | Apart from those participation criteria a written application must be submitted by September 15 , 2003 at the latest. Content of written application: - CV - References - Letter of motivation - approach to interdisciplinary work - fields in which the applicant intends to work - interest in student project management (yes/no) The number of participants is limited to a group of 10 - 12 persons, the selection follows the above given criteria. An application of graduates in principle is possible, however in case of competition preference is given to students
