This lecture gives an insight into challenges of urban planning, revealing the importance of local renewal processes. Next to this the currently growing significance of culture and arts in particular as subject to these processes is being explained, opening the floor for an overview to the field of cultural planning. Emergence, development and assessment of specific projects from the last decades will be discussed. By explaining historical contexts and processes of change in social or economic terms the links between city development planning and art-based local renewal processes will be shown.
Selected art-based projects and strategies will be introduced by guest lecturers, showing the variety of actors involved in such processes and revealing their meaning for city development planning.
The concept of this lecture is a mixture of theory-based units and practice-oriented guest-lectures and will be held from October to December.
