Discussion of Forms and Problems of urban growth and megacities through different experts. Explanation of urbanisation in the Third World. Discussion of planning strategies.
The lecture will be offered in english language!
The process of urbanisation characterizes the evolution of settlements since many decades. Socioeconomic change and technological progress provides this process and creates new forms of production and consumption in the local, regional and global context. Different types of urbanisation and urban development can be distinguished. Regional disparities invrease through processes of erosion in peripheral regions and the increasing attractivity of cities. Consequently, migration flows towards urban agglomerations accelerate urbansiation since many decades and lead to new problems of urbanisation and socio-spatial development. New issues for urban policy emerge inevitably: - How to reduce migration flows into cities? - How to handle rapid urban growth? - Which strategies are to be observed for different typs of cities in the context of competition and sustainability? These questions are dealt with by several experts from different disciplines and regarding cities in Latin America and Asia.
