After successful completion of the course, students are able to produce a text that meets academic standards. They learn to formulate a research question, analyse data material, develop an argument and discuss key findings in the context of existing research literature. The aim of the seminar is to introduce students of architecture and planning to the production of a scientific paper.

In the first step, a research question is developed that must be answerable with the available data material. The text is organized using the 3W formula (What? How? Why?) and the CAN formula (What is the Contribution ? What is the Argument? What is New?). To answer the research question, data material (observation protocols and interview transcripts) will be used, which was collected as part of the elective seminar Cultural and Architectural Sociology 264.226. The structure of the texts will be discussed in individual supervision, interim results (research question, abstract, content structure) will be presented to the group and discussed together.

Collaborative interpretation of interview material; discussion of abstracts (examples from journals); research on relevant research portals and journals. 

Written seminar paper with 25-30,000 characters (incl. spaces); approx. 15 pages of text (excluding images and appendices).
