Theater? Θέατρον? Театар? TE-A-TR!
The starting point for Schloss Drosendorf TEATR Happening 2024 is located in the Waldviertel in Lower Austria on the Thaya, about three hours by train from Vienna, almost on the Czech border to the north. What's it all about? The common goal of the seven-day event, from September 9 to 15, is a collaborative work that will culminate in a "happening" on Saturday, September 14.
Together we will examine the term "happening" and ask what is staging, what is scenography, what is costume? What are our props? What is staged and what is the foundation of a performance? What produces mere stillness in space, what is an oversized symbol or a simple object? What produces a mask? What is a backdrop? What is a character? What evokes applause, what laughter? It is important to articulate who wants what...
Happening, is that a process? Is the experience the art itself? Or only what remains at the end, what is created? Who is Zorka Ságlová? Who is Allan Kaprow? John Dewey, John Cage, Yoko Ono? Happening, if you ask me, is the expansion of architectural space... That is: unpredictability, multimedia, site-specificity and criticism...
Painterly, spatial, linguistic, performative and conceptual forms of articulation are first examined and developed together at the university and then implemented during the seven-day excursion. Drosendorf Castle with its spacious rooms, the theatrical courtyard, the open spaces and the surrounding landscape and the entire surrounding area offer us a perfect and inspiring projection and reflection surface for this.
We will try to approach the topic together or in small groups.
