After successful completion of the course, students are able to know about the importance of guidelines, standardisations and binding framework conditions in (school) architecture and at the same time recognise that the artistic-experimental and reflective examination of these guidelines, in the sense of "art grips", can also be the basis and catalyst for creative design processes. On the basis of artistic and playful research methods, a learning process is set in motion that enables students to develop creative and innovative (re)design approaches for existing educational spaces.

Graduates have a basic understanding of the issues that can arise in the (re)design of existing school spaces and are able to apply and present these findings in a creative way.

The course is also part of the FFG-funded "Innovationslabor für Bildungsräume in Bewegung / Bib-Lab" (www.bib-lab.at) of the Arbeitsraum Bildung at TU Wien (www.arbeitsraumbildung.at). In the course of the three-year research project, innovative design concepts for existing schools are being developed and tested in participation and networking processes.

By subject-specific input from art, architecture and education as well as researching artistic-scientific research, students have acquired knowledge about relevant parameters of (school) interior design and their influence on the atmosphere and teaching and learning performance in educational spaces. An important objective is to transform existing schools, which often do not (or no longer) meet the current needs and requirements of everyday school life, into atmospheric learning and living spaces.
With the help of guest teachers, playful, artistic-experimental and participatory "tricks" for school space development will be developed and tested in various workshop formats in order to derive creative design approaches and make them suitable for school practice.

Input lectures, on-site visits and participatory (school) observations, best-practice research, workshops, game rounds, test settings, discussion rounds, reflection talks, interim and final presentations.
