....approach a topic from an artistic practice and perspective.

....to choose an appropriate technique for the work and to implement it independently.

Subject of course

We find references in the history of art and architecture, consider strategies and procedures and incorporate them into our own artistic (design) process. We want to understand the artistic procedure and analyze and discuss it in the context of social and political changes.

 MUSEUM LIFE

What does an art museum need to live up to its original meaning of being "a sanctuary of the muses"? What exactly are the "sacred halls" of art? Is an art museum an idea from antiquity, something spiritual? Do mythological beings or even the gods themselves dwell in this place? Are the powers of art actually to be found there? Is the art museum a temple for rituals and effects?

Or is the art museum a particularly democratic place, like the parliament, the archive, or the theater? A place for different opinions and perspectives. A place of residence offering opinions and discourse, an agora, an arena of discussion and negotiation? Is the art museum a processing place for social issues and conflicts, a cosmopolitan arena of dispute and debate?

For sure, the art museum is a lot of work. An art museum is a scientific institution and an educational institution: archiving, documenting, collecting, restoring, expertly storing, preserving, labeling, cataloging, exhibiting, mediating, exploiting, publishing are only a fraction of its tasks. An art museum needs manpower, commitment, budgets, promotion and support. Ultimately, running an art museum is about fighting transience: it is about preserving art objects for future generations. It is about creating a better world.

But what is the role of an art museum in the Serbian periphery? What is a private museum of avant-garde art doing in a simple, agricultural area? What significance can a low-budget museum generate at all? What could the museum do for the local - and vice versa: what can the local do for the museum? What might greater involvement in the locale look like - or would complete disengagement be even better? So how do we imagine museum life?

Designing Museum Life is organized in collaboration with the Museum Macura in Novi Banovci, Serbia. The program is conceived as a joint artistic-architectural project in two phases:
