After successful completion of the course, students are able to recognize and name methods of art in order to use them as a basis for their own creative practice as architects. The mediation and appreciation of arts, places of its production, presentation and discussion, as well as the discourse on art itself are understood as a individual spaces to develop. On the basis of independently developed projects and strategies, the own artistic practice as a architects will be understood as a self-concept.
In this year's "Art Project M" and the associated course "Material and Technology as a Condition of Form" (264.135), we would like to explore the relationship between artistic concepts, the associated attitudes and its forms of expression. Due to the project, these courses will take place in blocks in the months of May to June, mostly in the premises and on the grounds of the "Landuni" at Schloss Drosendorf and on the grounds of the Ziegelwerk Nicoloso.
When attitudes become form
In 1969, an important exhibition with this very title took place at the Kunsthalle Bern. It was conceived by the curator Harald Szeemann, who changed both the medium of the exhibition and the role of the curator with lasting effect. The majority of the artworks shown in the exhibition were produced by the artists on site in the museum. Szeemann's claim was to show "...new artistic forms" that "did not arise from any preconceived pictorial opinions, but from the experience of the artistic process." *)
In the spirit of Harald Szeemann, we would like to devote ourselves to the material itself, its transformations into a designed object and its underlying network of relationships. The starting point will be the procurement of material in the clay pit of the Ziegelwerk Nicoloso. The clay prepared by hand there will subsequently form the basic material for an intensive phase of work on the grounds of Drosendorf Castle. For this purpose, a studio situation with the corresponding infrastructure will be developed and created collectively. Comparable to the historical exhibition "When attitudes become" form, the results of the stay at Drosendorf Castle will be presented in a joint exhibition in the form of site-specific objects or spatial installations.
A corresponding interest in craft work, commitment and time flexibility are therefore necessary prerequisites for participation in the course.
