After successful completion of the course, students are able to participate in the conception and realisation of an architecture exhibition.
The aim is to learn basic skills in the conception, argumentation, development and implementation of an architectural exhibition that includes cost estimation, the design of the architecture of the exhibition, its visual guidance system, displays, lettering and the integration of AV media as well as a creative solution for the event programme.The reason for this is the concrete example of the "arch diploma" of an exhibition that takes place every two years, in which the best diploma theses of the Faculty of Architecture and Spatial Planning are presented and discussed. Based on the development and design phase of the last semester, students will work in seperare groups and intensive block events on the final design and 1:1 implementation in October/November 2019. In this way the students gain an insight into the practical steps of conception and production as well as the communication programme of a complex multi-part exhibition.
The conception and design of exhibitions is one of the core fields of architecture. In its reduced scale and its temporal limitation, an exhibition offers an ideal training ground for the design of relationships between objects of the most diverse media in space, for the conception of pathways and visual relationships, of intended reinforcements of meaning and frictional surfaces between exhibited objects, which in the best case scenario virtually challenge confrontations and discussions.This is of particular interest to students when the high quality, the great diversity and the different standards of a selection of the most interesting theses of all departments of the Faculty of Architecture and Spatial Planning, where they themselves study, are presented to the public in a large, dense exhibition at a very attractive location. Although the projects to be exhibited will be selected by a jury, how they will be placed in relation to each other through their respective positioning in the space, through the design of the exhibition architecture and displays, through lettering and visual guidance systems, how thematic focal points will be set in the exhibition and in the supporting programme, they will be developed - and also realised - together with the students.
In small teams, under the guidance of the teachers, the various tasks such as the curatorial concept, the exhibition architecture and graphics are developed, visualised in models and finally implemented 1:1.The students also supervise the exhibition and its supporting programme.
