Art.Space.City

A space for exhibitions and performances
Airport City Vienna is developing from an infrastructure hub into a place of new urbanity. In addition to rising passenger numbers, the direct connection to the European high-speed rail network and the related expansion of the railway station are central to the urban space on the so-called landside, i.e. the area this side of the security zone at the airport.

The visual arts form the starting point for this design. It not only represents a programmatic goal, but also determines the approach: as a form of perception of a place and as a perspective on space. In a transdisciplinary approach between art and architecture, spaces will be developed on the landside of Airport City that are characterized by performative qualities and, as a discursive space of encounter, enable formats ranging from exhibition to dance. Exhibition and performance spaces create a public forum of relevant themes, which relates its visitors to very different and also contradictory narratives.

Performative, installative, sculptural interventions allow to enter into dialogue with the space. The change of roles leads from thinking from architectural practice to thinking to an artistic way of acting. The freedom of observation, the action defines the project, the work on site.
