naming and referece
We find references in the history of art and architecture, consider strategies and procedures and incorporate them into our own artistic (design) process. We want to understand the artistic procedure and analyze and discuss it in the context of social and political changes.
Viennese municipal buildings are a formative component of the Viennese cityscape. The construction projects of the City of Vienna in the interwar years were not only an expression of the urgent housing shortage, but also of an ideological and socio-political change.
In the meantime, they have also become monuments to Social Democratic values and Viennese urban history. At the same time, they remain vibrant components of urban life and largely meet contemporary housing standards.
Prominent persons of the political events of the 20th century are name donors of individual municipal buildings, as well as freedom fighters whose names might otherwise have disappeared from the collective memory.
Our questions are :
What is a living monument?
How do monuments get activated?
How to create an artistic reference in connection with the responsibility of a (collective) remembrance ?
