Learning outcomes

After successful completion of the course, students are able to recognize the conditions for designing an object resulting from a certain material. They can determine the usability of an object in relation to a selected target group of users and develop it step by step with the help of analogous models. They will learn to understand the ergonomic conditions for designing an object.

Subject of course

The aim of the course is to provide basic knowledge of the relationships between material, function, form and ergonomics in the development and production of everyday objects. The students can deal with the research, the conception and the creation of form studies within the form finding process in a practical and methodical way and are supported up to the mock-up or prototype production.

Teaching methods

The „Modelliersaal“ of our research area is provided as a learning environment. A basic research on the respective semester topic forms the beginning. First ideas in the form of sketches are accompanied by material and manufacturing experiments. The exploration of the shaping conditions resulting from the material, the usability and the ergonomics is an essential part of the design process.

Mode of examination

Immanent

Additional information

The LVA is a core subject of the module Form and Design and is only offered to students who take this module. It is closely linked to the module in terms of methodology and practice.

No registration in TISS is necessary for this LVA, because the participants are taken over by the module registration.

The LVA starts on Tuesday, 03.03.2020, 10:00h in the Modelliersaal (Erzherzog Johann Platz 1, EG) with the obligatory introduction  to the module Form and Design.

Examination modalities

Development (sketchbook, working models and material experiments), submission and presentation of a topic-related (multi-part), concrete, sensually perceivable and usable 1:1 design object.

Fundamental immanent examination character with obligatory presentations during the design process. Emphasis is placed on attendance at the „Modelliersaal“ for individual weekly meetings.
