Learning outcomes

After successful completion of the course, students are able to draw freehand what they see right in front of them. They draw freely and generously and compose spontaneously on paper. Drawing becomes an intuitively available means of communication.

Subject of course

Drawing from direct observation, practical exercise: Architectural space, people (life drawing)
Follow-up drawings

Teaching methods

Intensive practical training: You should draw a lot and in a relaxed manner.

1. Exercise block in the urban space at the beginning,
2. Tasks based on this, supervised online,
3. occasional life drawing

Mode of examination

Immanent

Additional information

TUWEL is the central forum for all further information on this course. Pay attention to the news forum there! Uploaded works are discussed in online meetings (zoom).

The exercise should complement the subject "Drawing and Visual Languages" and not be taken at the same time.

Structure of the exercises
1. The course begins with a block in the urban space, with the focus on the intensive graphic examination of a specific area. By depicting architecture, bodies and objects on site (not in the form of copied photos!), a coherent structure is to be represented. Here you train the ability to draw perspective, observational drawing of space and architecture. Furthermore, you create a mind map of the place you found in which you combine your observations. This should be done visually, avoiding text as far as possible!
In the course of the ongoing semester, the work at this location will be supplemented and supported in online meetings.
2. Further tasks can be set, which are also supervised by distance learning tools.
3. Drawn studies of the human body and its postures. Unfortunately, no live life drawing can take place this semester!

By studying in urban space and on the human body, you will develop the ability to accurately reproduce proportions, depict paths and movement sequences, record small-scale structures as well as large-scale spatial relationships and work out plasticity and spatiality using light and shadow.
