After positive completion of the course students are able to overview the historical development of modern product design as well as the most important positions of design theory and to apply the most important basic concepts. On a practical level, they learn the essential methods and design tools for the development of functional and sculptural objects. They will be able to work out problems within design tasks and set up parameters for their solution. They can structure their design approaches into systematic process steps and develop and produce them step by step on a 1:1 scale using working models, mock-ups and prototypes.
The aim of the course is to deepen the competence in the design of three-dimensional objects through practical exercises and by acquiring theoretical background knowledge in the fields of design theory, material-related shaping, Gestalttheory and design methodology. Using the example of a concrete, topic-related task, the planning and production of a design object is methodically prepared and developed into a 1:1 prototype by integrating digital and physical design methods.
Independent research; workshops; work on site in the "Modelliersaal"; weekly meetings and feedback rounds; real involvement with target groups or users; individual and independent development and presentation of an object in the field of product design or sculptural artistic design; presentation of the results in the context of exhibitions; work in small groups (max. 2 persons)
