After positive completion of the course, students are able to survey the cultural and consumer history of product design, starting from the 20th century. They can then critically examine designs, objects and production processes.
The lecture provides a theoretical framework for the semester topic of the module Form and Design. It offers insights into the relationships between design, material innovations and manufacturing techniques as a background for the development of spatial systems and objects. It illuminates the embedding of design in the cultural and consumer historical context. Theoretical foundations are provided on the basis of various aspects of 20th century design history, allowing students to take a critical look at design objects.
The course starts, together with the introduction to the module Form and Design, on Tuesday, 03.03.2020, 10h in the "Modelliersaal" (Erzherzog Johann Platz 1, EG).
