The exercise s main goal is the procurement of the practical skills to produce parts, models or prototypes on CNC machines, to enable students the use of (simple) CNC machines as our institute (3 and 4-axes milling machines, 3d printer, 2d laser cutter, laser scanner). Emphasis on working with a CNC wire cutter under supervision.
The main topic is the class is practical experience in model making and prototyping. This includes choosing the proper fabrication technology, understanding the possible impact of new technologies on the design, the CAD modeling of the part, programming the computer controlled machine using a CAM application , fabrication the model on a CNC machine at the institute s workshop. Teaching of relevant architectural geometry.
The theoretical fundamentals necessary to follow this exercise are taught in the lecture Numerische Fertigungsmethoden (LVA 264.048). Students must either have attended and passed this lecture or attend it parallel to this exercise. The schedule for this exercise will be announced in the the lecture Numerische Fertigungsmethoden (LVA 264.048).
The grading is based on the student's active engagement and the quality of the object (model, prototype or mock-up) produced in this class or at any other class or module.
Registration is only at tiss avaliable.
This course will be introduced on Tuesday March 8th 2011 between 10 and 11 o'clock am at the institute of art and design.
