This introductory course for architecture students aims to provide them with a basic foundation in concepts and approaches to the planning and design of outdoor space, teaching theory and analysing existing projects. It is intended to provide students with basic ideas, some initial understanding and experience of designing the spaces between buildings. In the practice part acquired knowledge will be used to develop a concept for urban green space design.
The "Studio Städtebau" consists of two parts: the "Urban Design Studio¿ and ¿Basics of Landscape Architecture¿. Therefore Design Projects which are developed in the course of the Studio Städtebau will be supervised by lecturers from both disciplines. Following a short introduction to some of the basic terms and concepts of the discipline in the form of a series of lectures, students are asked to analyse and compare selected landscape architecture projects based on their description in the literature. The insights gained from this exercise are then applied in the planning and design of the outdoor spaces within the context of the students own urban design studio project.
While urban design projects are analysed and in order to develop ideas for an urban design concept, excursions to positive examples of urban green space projects are part of the lecture. Thus aspects of urban design will be in the focus at an early stage as well as function and dimension through on site discussion about the design.
Students assigning for "Studio Städtebau" are automatically assigned for this course and group information is transferred.
Important: All students assigning for "Studio Städtebau" should subscribe to "Grundlagen der Lansdschaftsarchitektur" in TISS! This enables access to the excursions in TUWEL.
Exception: Students that have already finished "Studio Städtebau" at a foreign university and want to enroll only in "Grundlagen der Landschaftsarchitektur" must subscribe per e-Mail and contact the supervisor of the special group Annalisa Mauri: annalisa.mauri@tuwien.ac.at! Due to organizational restrictions, enrolling is only available before 09/29/15, 11PM.
