Learning outcomes

After successful completion of the course, students are able to...

  • -       understand the fundamental concepts, the tools and practical applications of AI
  • -       consider legal considerations and potential future regulation of AI
  • -       understand basics of authorship, copywrite, ethics of using and/or training Ai
  • -       develop the potential of AI within the field of development planning and architecture design.

They'll learn about real-life use cases from practice perspective, potential challenges, and ethical implications associated with the integration of AI in architectural practice.

Subject of course

The module “Introduction to AI in Development Planning and Architecture Design” aims to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of the integration of AI technologies within the field of development planning, including architecture and urban planning. Through a series of lectures, case studies and exercises, students will explore various facets of AI applications in architectural design, urban planning, analysis and ethics. With systemic thinking the module teaches general principles of basics of application of Artificial Intelligence in Development Planning processes. Based on this, essential competences of using AI in the workflow are taught and deepened in particular in the application areas of architectural concept, design, planning, management, communication (co-operative design) and prompt engineering. Related fundamental legal issues (in particular basics of Ai law, authorship, copyright, ethics and biases) are also discussed. Let alone issues and problematics of using of AI in architecture practice will be addressed during this Module

Content:

1: Introduction to AI: the world behind the tools

2: Legal, ethical and organizational aspects of using AI

3: Generative AI: prompting, concepts, rendering and post-rendering

4: AI for data mining and decision support in architecture and development planning

Teaching methods

Constructivist didactics forms the basis of the module.
