Festival centre in the Löwinnenhof*
The contemporary culture festival "Tangente St. Pölten" will set up its festival centre in the Löwinnenhof* in spring 2024. During the festival, the already culturally active area will become a place of exchange, creativity and encounters, where various festival-related activities such as events, workshops, lectures and discussions will take place.
The historic courtyards, known as Löwinnenhof*, in the city centre of St. Pölten have developed into a hotspot for the local cultural and club scene over the past few years, but there are still many vacant spaces. Building on these cultural and spatial resources, the area is to be further developed, thus creating a cultural infrastructure that will continue to play an important role in St. Pölten's cultural landscape beyond the festival year.
Under the project management of the Italian collective "Biennale Urbana" and together with their students from the "raum&designstrategien" department of the University of Art and Design Linz, various programmatic focal points of the festival centre in the Löwinnenhof* will be planned and implemented: a festival info point and shop, event spaces, bar/club, artist residencies, activation of the courtyards/outdoor space. A vacant, demolished educational building and the furniture left behind serve as the starting point for the design and material storage.
Supervised by Tina Wintersteiger (Bauteiler, Materialnomaden) and Dorothee Huber (Forschungsbereich Städtebau und Entwerfen, TU Wien) and in close collaboration with Biennale Urbana, the group of students will design and build selected components of the Biennale Urbana activation concept. At the same time, a course at the University of Art and Design Linz under the direction of Giulia Mazzorin, Lorenzo Romito and Andrea Curtoni (Biennale Urbana, raum&designstrategien, University of Art and Design Linz) will take place and offer an opportunity for mutual exchange.
