After successful completion of the course, students are able to critically reflect on theoretical and practical approaches to tactical urbanism and climate change adaptation. In addition, students acquire competences in the independent preparation and implementation of the moderation of expert inputs as well as the subsequent discussions.

Subject of course

The practical planning discourse course takes place in conjunction with the urban and landscape design project (260.715). Participants in the design course do NOT need to register separately in TISS.

As part of the LVA 260.855, 6 input lectures will take place, which will be prepared and followed up by the students in group work.

TikTak Galilei
Tactical urbanism and placemaking for sustainable climate change adaptation in Alsergrund

In times of climate change and health crises, short-term, temporary transformations of public spaces through tactical urbanism are becoming increasingly important. They make the added value of major changes directly tangible and increase awareness and acceptance among the population, administration and politics. Their particular potential lies in promoting learning processes and initiating and accelerating rapid, sustainable transformation.

As part of the lecture exercise, Tactical Urbanism is used as a design and planning tool in the service of climate change adaptation. Input from various experts will provide students with a multifaceted insight into the scientific and practical planning approaches in this subject area.

The lecture exercise is a supplementary subject in the elective module 3: City and Landscape. The course is linked to the core subject of the elective module PR Design on City and Landscape (260.715) in terms of content and schedule, which provides an optimal thematic focus in the Master's programme. The seminar City and Landscape in Climate Change (260.716 SE) takes place as a further specialisation, which is also designed in such a way that the elective module has a uniform thematic focus. This provides the ideal opportunity to complete the entire elective module totalling 18 ECTS credits in one semester.
