Subject of course

Site visit, discussion with experts and local stakeholders on designing Animal Spaces & Beastly Places Neuperlach

Teaching methods

In the context of the New European Bauhaus project NEBourhoods Neuperlach we will design spaces of cohabitation in the Munich district of Neuperlach. We will work analytically with the pair of terms coined by the geographers Philo and Wilbert, animal spaces (spaces that humans grant to animals, such as zoo, stable, pasture, wilderness) and beastly places (places that are actually used by animals) and apply the planning method Animal-Aided Design. The goal of the project is to identify and design places that allow appropriation by animals and to develop scenarios for possible cohabitation between humans and non-human animals (cohabitation). We will work with local stakeholders from civil society and with partners from the NEBourhoods research project as part of this project. The idea is that results of the design will be implemented in the following year.
