After successful completion of the course, students are able to independently analyse urban planning contexts and develop solution models.

From an urban climatological point of view, the south of Graz is a disadvantaged area due to low ventilation and high fog frequency. The structure results from contrasts, mixtures and overlaps. We want to rethink the value of the city and its facets and activate the potential of areas that present very heterogeneous cultural codes. Unknown coexistences without interaction are present here. Couldn't these link up? What can the outer city do that the inner city cannot? What does the coexistence of animals and humans look like when mobility and energy consumption have to become more sustainable? And in a world shaped by digital disruption, migration and demographic change, how can urban areas emerge that are just and resilient and tell a multi-voiced urban story? We want to perform scenarios of a hybrid transformation. We expect enthusiasm for practical development and fieldwork on site, incl. the final public performance of the “Stadtstück” at Club Hybrid in Graz.
Contextualisation makes it possible to bring latent narratives to the surface. It is about developing scenarios of transformation that move between memory (the stories of place), reinvention (innovative spatial settings) and reversibility (temporary interventions). Performative planning uses methods that we know from the fields of visual arts, dance, theatre to playfully clarify possible futures for the actors.
