After successful completion of the course, students are able to work out complex design tasks from the field of architecture and urban design independently, systematically and with an original, contemporary design approach based on a precise architectural language. They have the competence to recognize fields of action in the urban context and to develop corresponding urban planning solutions. The students acquire the competence to research topic-related basics on their own responsibility. They acquire the competence to create design concepts, to present them comprehensively in the form of draft and detailed plans and to present them convincingly.
In the concrete context of the military conflict in Eastern Europe, the topic of reconstruction of housing or living space that has been destroyed or is needed elsewhere, questions such as these are in the foreground:How can concepts for the reestablishment or new foundation of settlements be conceived?How can living space be developed in a resource-efficient way, with a short construction time and in a sustainable way?Which public spaces and functions are required for the configuration of new settlement structures and how can their presence be ensured?How can building fabric achieve the necessary mobility to respond to political, military and socio-spatial changes?After an analytical approach, the insights gained will be developed into concepts and elaborated in a workshop week.The proposed location in Vienna on the Danube (navigability): The large parking area near the Marina Wien (north-west) and the brownfield area up to the Praterkai train station (south-east). This area is bounded by the Donaukai station or Donauuferbahn to the south and the Danube to the north.

The delivery of the design is planned as an analog presentation. Due to Covid security conditions, the submission can be made digitally. Expected is a comprehensive presentation of the project in plans, models and documentation of the project in digital form, publications and exhibitions.
