After successful completion of the course, students are able to understand the various aspects of the changes in this living space from the scale of the object to the scale of the region, from the transformation of the built environment to the transformation of society, from the analogue field to the digital cloud. Colleagues from different research fields, experts and guests will focus on the main issues of rural areas, long-term phenomena and current trends and counter-trends. In the field of tension between city and countryside lies the complexity of the territories and milieus subsumed under the catchword "rural area".

Topics such as the resilience of our living, movement and supply spaces in the context of climatic challenges, dynamic digitalization and the processes of necessary change in our handling of resources, as well as the conflict between an expanding cultural landscape and the protection of natural landscapes in the context of the development of traffic and settlement areas are taken into account.

Within the framework of the module, students are given an overview of the status quo of local and regional development through presentations by experts from planning practice, specialist departments and academic institutions. In the course of several supervised workshops, students identify topics relevant to the future development of the potential development area. The students then independently develop contributions consisting of graphics, plans and texts, which are summarized in a collective publication.
