After successful completion of the course, students are able to develop concepts for a project's dissemination and to work out a corresponding graphic and visual language. The students deal with the use of tools for the design of graphics and plans, photographs and films, exhibitions and websites for the targeted communication of urban and architectural projects. The course also serves as preparation for the conception and creation of dissemination projects that go beyond the presentation of a semester project.
Winter semester 2020/21
Publication "Lifelines"
tutors: Sebastian Sattlegger, Bernhard Mayer, Clara Linsmeier
In the 2020/21 winter term we will jointly develop a concept for a publication on the "Lifelines" project, which is funded as part of the "Research Fellowship Location and Real Estate Development" on the subject of "The City of Tomorrow".
Since February 2020 lecturers and students of TU's centre of urban design have been working in the context of the interaction of urban structure and mobility in the frameework of the project "Lifelines". The aim of the project is to create a new way of looking at structures and spaces of mobility along Vienna's main arterial roads, their past and future development, against the background of mobility as a societal field of conflict and an emerging change in our behaviour regardnig mobility. Arterial roads are urban spatial continuities that connect central and peripheral areas. They are not only important transit axes, but also represent space-forming structures of great permanence. Different facets of urban development can be observed along their course. These main traffic arteries from overlapping and complementary modes of transport and infrastructure networks represent a compendium of urban and periurban realities.
The course's aim to develop a joint narrative from the contributions that arose during the previous design studios, in order to then develop a concept for a publication. In the further course of the semester, we will work together on the elaboration of these contributions, which portray Vienna's arterial roads in general and the urban space along the "Lifeline" Praterstraße - Lassallestraße - Wagramer Straße in particular, depict important topics, allow actors to have their say, show possible future developments and thus determine its role for Vienna's urban development.
Another area of responsibility is the coordination and coordination with our cooperation partner Mies Magazin, whose contributers will make a film on the subject of "Lifelines".
Further information and a timetable will be announced during September!
In consultation with the colleagues participating in the previous design studios, we will work jointly on a concept for a publication, and futher on individually our in groups on partial aspects (research, writing short texts, layout design, creation graphics, mappings and plans) of the publication.
Working continously is essential to pass the course. Both the participation during the units at TU Wien as well as the ongoing work between these units, as well as the quality of this work and especially the quality of the final submission are used to determine the grade.
The student must have at least 1 of the course(s) completed listed below:
