After successful completion of the course, students are able to work on complex design tasks from the field of urban planning independently, systematically and with an original, contemporary design approach on the basis of a precise design language. They have the competence to recognise fields of action in an urban context and to develop appropriate urban planning solutions. Students are able to conduct their own research and to establish topic-related fundamentals. They are able to create design concepts and present them comprehensively in the form of strategy, draft and detail plans.
Cities as a formed and transformed construct of political intentions allow conclusions to be drawn about prevailing and past ideologies, socio-political systems and current tendencies through their existing structures. Sarajevo shows its morphological continuum in a very clear form, but on closer look raises questions that illustrate the complexity of its many realities. In the course of the last semester, students were sent on a voyage of discovery - from a distance - in order to identify current topics by means of morphological and typological analyzes and to find spatial answers to them. The site was the entire city.
Based on the findings of this work, the existing urban structure is to be solved layer by layer and visualized anew. The projects are questioned, deepened, examined in the context of the overall urban structure, reused in distilled form or perhaps discarded. The result is a manifesto on reading the city, revealing all its beauty and contradictions.
