Subject of course

Thematic focus 2020:
The city as a sponge - approaches for a climate-sensitive urban design

Climate change has a lasting impact on the quality of life in our urban agglomerations. The question of how cities should be designed in the future to counteract the trend of urban overheating as well as to deal with the challenges of future water management is the central content of the course. Concrete concepts for a sustainable water management in urban agglomerations are developed, which aim at a careful and climate-efficient handling of the precious resource water. The use of nature-based solutions to secure and further develop the existing green and blue infrastructure, the networking of larger and smaller green areas, as well as the use and optimisation of existing open spaces and other elements in road space can help to contain overheating in cities.

The Kick OFF of the whole module will take place on 02 March at 9.30 in the seminar room Landscape (erzherzog Johannplatz 1;3rd floor).
