Learning outcomes

After successful completion of the course, students are able to address issues relating to climate change adaptation from a strategic perspective, with special focus on urban water. Planning concepts and design measures relating to green and blue infrastructure at different scales will be developed - Keywords include 'Water-sensitive urban and open space planning'.

Subject of course

In times of progressing climate change, expanding green infrastructure is seen as an important possibility to avoid or alleviate the most extreme peak temperatures during heat periods in the urban environment.  But more vegetation needs more water. At the time of max need of shade or cooling the inner city trees are suffering from heat and drought stress.
