The aim of this course is to design urban strategies for Rijeka, the European Capital of Culture 2020. Participants will work on expanding and detailing already conceived concepts in order to produce, using basic drawing methods, clear and understandable architectural publication material ready for presentation to the public.

Design Studio Rijeka is the third in a group of design studios, and the continuation of the previous two, on the topic of Rijeka, the European Capital of Culture 2020, where students will have a chance to expand the existing concept that focused on a detailed urban analysis of Rijeka through interviews, sketches, videos and other investigative methods. The working approach of Rijeka Open City in the previous studios was dynamic and effective, often based on the journalistic method of five W's (Who?, What?, When?, Where?, Why?). The work done in the previous two design studios is presented in the form of a logbook, which serves as the foundation of the project itself and the starting point for the design studios in this semester.
Unlike the previous two design studios, the plan for RCC 3 is for most of the architectural and urban planning work to be completed in Vienna beforehand, with the remaining task assigned to Rijeka being the easily understood presentation of the project through effective marketing materials and strategies. The goal is to hold as many quality presentations and discussions as possible, so as to act as a sort of agents, with the possibility of interventions on the project on site if necessary.
The trip to Rijeka is planned for February 2018, with the precise date to be announced in the coming months.
