After successful completion of the course, students are able to take part in the current discourse regarding questions of urban and village renewal as a central task field of municipal planning processes. There is therefore a great interest that students become familiar with the complex tasks, aims and methods as well as with the limits of urban and village renewal and to enable the students to equally consider social, technical, economical and artistic aspects, to apply these aspects in a networked form, to evaluate them in relation to their sustainability and to critically reflect upon the general framework.
The course deals with the history and instruments of urban renewal and urban redevelopment, theories of urban redevelopment, questions of the public space, the social city and applied planning instruments of urban and village renewal. On-site walks and events will serve to make questions of urban and village renewal and their relevant topics visible through practice-oriented tasks and examples and to reflect upon them in subsequent discussion rounds.
Lectures to provide relevant basics as well as educational walks on questions of urban and village renewal with their relevant topics. On-site studies with practice-oriented tasks and examples, followed by a discussion.
