After successful completion of the course, students are able to critically reflect upon the building and planning process in non-urban spaces and to evaluate aspects of planning in rural areas in the context of major challenges like climate change, land consumption, rural exodus, biodiversity crisis, ageing population, social inequalities, etc.
Through a variety of short inputs, guest lectures and discussion rounds, the course provides an insight in the planning discourse, the planning reality and the building culture outside of agglomerations. Thereby, planning experts from architecture and spatial planning will meet representatives of grass-roots-initiatives and of the institutionalized planning. They will present an overview of different aspects and facets of the development and transformation dynamics of rural areas, cultural and natural landscapes. As part of the double-lectures there will be discussion rounds with the students following inputs of the lecturers.
The course will be complemented by the lecture series Baukultur by the Baukulturregion Alpenvorland: http://www.baukulturregion.de/baukultur-vortragsreihe.html
