After successful completion of the course, students are able to understand cities as centers of political and economic changes of the last millennia. They are informed about the urban living space, which is characterized by suburbanization and structural change and whose planning is increasingly to be understood as a dynamic development process.
Due to the conveyed history of ideas of the urban, from urban theory to the international planning practice of urban living, they are able to deal with new urban structures and the topic of public space.
The focus is on aspects of diversity of use, housing typologies and urban structures. European and international phenomena, technological, spatial and social potentials of the design of urban living and urban spaces will be dealt with and discussed in consideration of current trends.
The mechanisms of action in the field of "urban living" are dealt with and discussed on the basis of real examples and utopias. A focus will be on independently managed residential sub-centres that have developed on the outskirts of metropolises. Historically necessary comparisons will be partially dealt with.
