Aim of course

Objectives of the Module:   Students act consciously in different development situations.[situationsspezifische Handlungskompetenz]   Students: • define development goals • pursue development goals with actual project and interventions • initiate and qualify projects   Students apply and adapt concepts and theories concerning strategic urban management, real estate development and infrastructure development to new tasks. This includes: • apply and adapt the different strategies to manage and steer urban development integrating and regulating private,/institutional real estate developers and investors • apply and adapt the different possibilities and scenarios to manage and steer urban development integrating public real estate developments and public infrastructure projects • start to work scientifically in the field Development Planning   Students have improved competences to work with or for developers (real estate and infrastructure) and development planners.

new framework conditions for urnban planning since the 80´s - globalisation and chaos theory

public real estate development - cases Darmstadtium and Centralstation; system theory

work on the portfolio / feedback

real estate development – private developer perspective, development appraisal: front-, backdoor approach

development of managed real estate – international case studies on principles and success factors

Public Private Partnership – lifecycle approach, principal-agent-theory

Infrastructure development – public sector perspective, Masdar City etc.

Portfolio (8-10 pages) and oral exam

Please develop – based on the experiences you make in the course „steering urban development by projects“ and your reflection – your individual compendium (guide / handbook) for the practice of „steering urban development by projects“   The presentation of the portfolio will be the introduction to an oral exam of 12-15 minutes concerning the objectives of the course.
