By experiencing directly and closely different urban settings, students would have the opportunity to develop their knowledge of urban phenomena, and to sharpen their sense of criticism. It would furthermore improve significantly their competence of solving current planning and design tasks.
Direct experience of urban design situations, is indispensable to teaching urban design. The excursions serve as a means to study closely particular settings on the ground. Trips have as their ultimate goal the development of skills in perception. They are meant to convey clearly to students a repertoire of possibilities for comparison and judgment. Preferable destinations are significant historical urban achievements, but also, locations, which exhibit contemporary tendencies in urban design.
