Aim of course
Exercise: understanding and evaluating spatial realities. Implementing of a design concept, which is based on a thorough analysis considering the technical traffic requirements, the conditions of open and landscaped spaces and the prerequisites for the conception of building types. Lecture: introduction in the discipline of urban design by considering selected fundamentals, methods and techniques of urban design planning. There is an equal emphasis on methodical and technical aspects as well as design and creativity
Subject of course
Exercise: Realizing and analysing of a concrete urban and built situation in scale 1:1000, evaluating of positive and negative design elements and their spatial implications. Planning and designing the site while considering the results of the analysis. Spatial implementation of the design in a plastic model. Lecture: introduction of the aims and motives of urban design planning (historical review); definition of terminology for settlement design; aspects of cityscape design; housing; traffic requirements; public buildings and services; industrial, trade and crafts buildings; open spaces; ecological aspects of urban planning; techniques of urban design planning in Austria.
