Tech, Drones & the City

What do we know about cities? How has our understanding of cities changed with recent technological advancements around Big Data? What does this mean for urban infrastructures such as utilities, but also public parks and migrant housing.

The course will focus on urban mobility and the open spaces in/above our heads. Final works will concern the topic "Uncertain Skies. Visions for the Scaling of Drones".

 

We will investigate the utopias & dystopias of Smart Cities in a global context and develop an understanding of how to employ tech to plan, build and run cities.

The seminar will include talks, readings, film analysis, workshops and the design of urban interventions. A few works might be selected to be shown in Leipzig at a convention of transport ministers from 59 different countries in May 2018.
