After successful completion of the course, students are able to...
Along the course in combination with Modul Logik der Struktur the students will be familiarized with the methods below:
-robotic manufacturing
-digital fabrication
-design to production methodologies
-computational design and optimization
-physical prototyping
-experimental design
Additionally, we are offering an excursion to Barcelona which will also be very informative for the course. It is not obligatory to join the excursion but we recommend joining.
With a focus on design for assembly and disassembly, this course focuses on the development of discrete, repetitive component-based joining systems. Through exploration of robotic fabrication processes, structural simulation strategies, and parametric design methodologies, the students will challenge innovative approaches to design and fabrication. The course is combined with the Modul Logik der Struktur, which will provide the base technical knowledge to execute the design brief.
Design Brief:
This design course explores digitally fabricated, reconfigurable component typologies to develop a set design for exterior audiovisual performances. The so-called stage will be used as a projection surface and an acoustic background. As opposed to conventional ways design of projection surfaces, we desire to explore possibilities of distorting the projections through geometric and material-oriented interventions. The focus of the design will be on the development of a reconfigurable canopy that is executed by an innovative joining system.
The semester will be kicked off by a design hackathon, where the students will be asked to develop a component-based system in 3 days. Working in groups of 4 students are asked to develop a component-based stage prototype, experimenting with projection.
