After successful completion of the course, students are able to apply parametric design for the production of individualized architecture.

The student is able to calculate and apply the business model of mass customization for his/her designs (File to Factory, Just-in-Time Produktion, Prefabrication).

Furthermore, the student is able to use various fabrication techniques to implement his/her designs (3D printing, robot-controlled fabrication, formwork construction).

Possibilities are shown and applied using examples of mass production of architecture and design (prefabricated elements, modular interchangeable parts, individually adapted prefabricated parts). This mainly involves two areas: (1.) parametric design as a means of producing individualized architecture, (2.) the implementation of such a design using manufacturing methods. Regarding the first point, students learn about practical examples (e.g. prefabricated house suppliers, individualized production, automated planning) and about the programming technology in the background (especially Grasshopper, Dynamo and/or Python, Vb C# for Rhino). The second point – the actual manufacturing process – is either simulated by suitable software (e.g. manufacturing simulation for robots,... ) or implemented as a scale model.

The course is held as a lecture with exercise in order to deepen the theoretical basics through practical exercises.
