After successful completion of the course, students are able to classify the rhetorical and architectural-theoretical position of the authors and to reflect the general character of architecture in connection with rhetoric precisely and on a broad theoretical basis.
>> this semester's BA Seminar "Architekturtheorie" will be taught by Dr. Andrés Pizzinini, who will visit ATTP as a guest professor in the fall 2023.
Architectural theory has been closely linked to rhetoric since its beginnings in antiquity. Both disciplines are essentially generalist and thus integrative; both are rooted in a form of rationality that is both theoretical and practical, connected by the link of aesthetic persuasiveness. The different weighting of these three elements determines the architectural-rhetorical position of the respective authors reflected in this course: Plato, Vitruvius, Alberti, Barbaro, Guarini, Gianbattista Vico, Ch. Jencks et al.
The course will be held fortnightly in block form. Alternately, there will be an online lecture followed by a face-to-face seminar on the topic of the same lecture. In order to complete the course positively, students must write a final seminar paper.
