After successful completion of the course, students are able to develop an architectural design by considering context and background as well as specific aspects of the given design task, such as hierarchies of space, orientation, appropriateness, balance of nature and architecture, dimensions, proportions, construction and materials. Architecture should be understood as an immersive spatial experience.
A new school and local center are to be built in the center of the small town of Oberwaltersdorf (Lower Austria), south of Vienna. At the current location of the school there is already an elementary school, a new middle school and a special school. There is not much space, but the location is absolutely close to the center: a dense packing.
This densely occupied school location is now to be expanded and optimized with a high school with a sports and music branch. The current inventory must be included in the planning in terms of re-use. The aim of the intervention is to create an independent spatial quality that benefits not only the students and teachers, but the entire local population.
