Lecture topic: ROBOTICS, AI, and ARCHITECTURE SPACE

Nowadays, new developments of already long existing technologies have an amazing impact on everyday life. Therefore, in the VO we will start from robotics and artificial intelligence. We will familiarize ourselves with both technologies, see where they came from and why they became influential, putting old familiar and forgotten backgrounds into new contexts. The aim is to explore with lectures and debates what consequences these technologies have for architecture in the broadest sense and what social and cultural techniques they might bring about.
In general, technologies and techniques are inseparable from architecture, because architecture is one of the oldest technologies of mankind. Moreover, the use of technologies is important, the techniques. At every time in history, some architects* dared to go beyond the state of their time. They tried to develop their ideas at the cutting edge of the technologies of their time or to stand up against them. Others tried to develop new socio-cultural approaches. You could say these people domesticated or tamed technologies to make them constitutive of their architectural ideas.
The resulting architectural diversity will be elaborated throughout the course of the lecture. By analyzing architectural themes such as "Encapsulating & Adaption", "Organism & Network" or "Psyche & Apparatus", to name but a few. Furthermore, projects from the 20th to the beginning of the 21st century will be discussed. They will be analyzed in terms of how technocultural ideas were transformed into concepts of architecture at different times and how these processes produced the sources of their own poetics and how they subsequently reshaped established meanings.
The content of the lecture will be explored in depth in structured debates.
